Buses drown in waterlogged Delhi roads as city receives 70 mm rainfall: Watch
Heavy rainfall in Delhi caused major waterlogging in parts of the city on Monday morning. Buses were seen submerged in water in Prahladpur while several cars drowned in other areas.
Delhi recorded 70 mm rain over the past 24 hours, the highest 24-hour rainfall since 2015, said the IMD. According to Mahesh Palawat, vice-president of Meteorology and Climate Change, Delhi's highest rainfall record is of 226.2 mm rainfall on July 21 in 1958.
Waterlogging led to massive traffic snarls on the road between Holy Family Hospital and Jamia University where cars were seen trapped in stagnant water soon after the rainfall.
Heavy waterlogging was also seen under the Prahladpur underpass where a bus got trapped in the water. News agency ANI quoted a local saying, "We were going to Faridabad. Now we are unable to go anywhere. This has caused us many problems. This problem has been going on for 25 years."
A similar scene was witnessed at an underpass in Mahipalpur near the IGI airport where a bus was half-submerged in water.
A tree fell near ITO in Delhi after the heavy rainfall.Waterlogging has also caused major traffic snarls at the busy ITO intersection in Delhi. Traffic movement from ITO to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg was affected on Monday morning due to the major waterlogging.
Meanwhile, it continues to remain cloudy over Delhi and adjoining areas while the IMD has said that rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning is likely to continue for a few more hours.
