Chennai: According to the Met department forecast, Chennai will likely experience a thunderstorm with light to moderate rain on Monday and Tuesday. The department also added," The sky condition is likely to be generally cloudy. Thunderstorms with light to moderate rain are likely to occur in some parts."

On Sunday night, many parts of the city experienced rainfall. These parts include, Kolathur, Vyasarpadi, Korattur, Kilpauk, Anna Nagar, Aminjikarai, Koyambedu, Nungambakkam, Egmore, and Saidapet.

While talking to the TOI, a Met official said that the heavy rain had pushed the rain surplus figures high for the season since June 1. He also added that the weekend rain is due to the impact of the Southwest monsoon.

The showers in the city on Sunday began around 7 pm. The rain recorded was touching around 2 cm in many parts of the city from Saturday to Sunday. Nungambakkam has recorded the highest rainfall of 7.7 cm. Maduranthagam and Puzhal also saw heavy rain and recorded 5 cm, whereas Anna Nagar got 4 cm. Other parts like Mariana, Marakkanam, and Sriperumbudur recorded 3cm rain. Taramani and Kelambakkam recorded 2 cm rain.

Thunderstorm with heavy rain is predicted to occur at isolated places over the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni and Salem regions. The forecast for the rest of the state also said that thunderstorm with light to moderate rain is likely in isolated places over the Western Ghats, Erode, Tiruppur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Vellore, Tiruputtur, Ranipet, and Tiruvullur districts.
